It's a suite!!! Awesome!!!!!!!! :Dd will stay here for sure if next time visit shanghai... And will tell friends about this awesomest place!!! Thank you!!!
Hotel staff had a little attitude.... Prolly because it's a shanghainese thing instead of it's just those hotel staff working there. It'd be wayyyy better if they wear smile more!

Reasonably central location but just off a busy highway interchange. Can be a little challenging if you want to cross the street. Rooms are all suites, with kitchen, bedroom, living room, bath, study area and balcony. Very nice for extended stay in downtown Shanghai.
Location is not convenient to walking, but taxis are relatively inexpensive. Kitchen does not come equipped with any pots, pans, plates or other housewares which is rather strange.

It has complete facilities in the room. The location is just right almost in the heart of the city. The staff has an understanding on the need of the guest during check-in & check-out procedures.
Perhaps Howard Johnson should devise a system to encourage more taxis to frequent its premises to allow guests easy access instead of walking to the main road to call for taxi service.

the hotel is not bad for the price, but as many Chinese hotel is the service that is a problem....
I booked a no smoking room. When I arrived at the hotel they told me that they don't have any no smoking room free. After my protest they told me that they have found one. I went to the room and in the common area (as they give you serviced apartments) there were smell of smoking. Internet in the room was very very bad and very expensive, I called the business center to make something but no solutions... The line was 1 minute on and 10 minute off...At the end they asked me to pay for 24 hours of internet...I discussed 30 minutes and at the end I paid because I need to go, but this was a rubbery.

The room was lovely, ornate yet contemporary, which was perfect for me. There was a kitchen that I didn't use, but it would certainly be good for a visiting family. I read reviews about the rooms not living up to the standard of other Howard Johnsons, but my room was wonderful. I was able to order a hamburger at 2:45AM and they served the meal in no time with a smile. The bed was soft, the room wasn't huge but the entertaining and dining areas were adequate as well as the bathroom.
It doesn't have a pool.

The wonderful breakfast buffet! Also the garden view from the restaurant, and watching the cat family that lives in the garden. Check-in-out counter staff were excellent, as were the restaurant staff. The tickets the concierge staff ordered for us for the acrobatics show were just right, although I was surprised that I couldn't use a credit card to pay for them. The blackout curtains in our room were very effective, so we could enjoy an afternoon nap. The hotel has its own ATM machine. Our suite (on the 6th floor) was quiet - we couldn't hear the 24-7 honking of car horns at all.
The beds were very hard and uncomfortable and all the pillows were too large. Some pillows smelled of other people's body grease. I had to put towels over them to cover the odor. Some of the concierge staff were unable to answer questions in simple English. The shower floor was extremely slippery. I put a towel down to make it less dangerous when I showered. I expect hotel staff to be able to tell me where I can buy postage stamps and cash traveler's checks even on a weekend. Or to have the hotel provide these services itself. We had to go back to Pudong airport to purchase stamps and cash traveler's checks on a Saturday.

Location - convenient to travel to Pu Dong and Hong Qiao area.
Lobby was rundown, small, full of cigarette smell. Staff are not friendly. They are doing their jobs, except no basic greetings to guests. Front Desk needs to be renovated. Our room size is fine, except there is only one bathroom, which is very inconvenient when we have 4 of us stayed in the room. Bathroom is too small for a family to share. Kitchen needs to be equipped with some basic utensils to suit 4 guests.
